How to use the calculator in Europe

European solar estimates need local inputs. Use EUR or your local currency, enter your household import electricity price, and enter the export payment that applies to excess generation. If your country uses grants, VAT reductions or other incentives, enter the installed cost after those benefits only when you want the payback result to reflect your out-of-pocket cost.

Why European solar payback varies

Solar economics in Europe vary because electricity prices, incentives, VAT rules, export payments, grid limits and sunlight levels differ. The calculator is designed to be flexible by letting users enter their own tariff and cost assumptions instead of forcing one model for every country.

Southern regions may have higher output, while northern regions may need more panels for the same annual generation. Roof orientation, shading, inverter losses, battery cost and future electricity prices can also change the result.

What currency should I use?

Use EUR or your local currency. The calculator works as long as the installed cost, electricity price and export value use the same currency.

Should I include incentives?

Include incentives only if you want the result to show payback based on the reduced out-of-pocket cost. For a before-incentive comparison, enter the gross installed cost.

Why is export value separate from electricity price?

Self-used solar offsets the import price. Exported solar may be paid at a different feed-in or net billing rate, so the calculator keeps these values separate.
